ground spike
Ceremonial spike made for Manchester International Festival 2017 and installed for Ground Breaking - the launch event for The Factory, Manchester's new forthcoming arts centre.
The piece was the centrepiece of Laurie Anderson's performance and comprised a stainless steel spike set in a metal sleeve such that it could be struck and ceremonially struck to break ground at the new venue. The spike was removed after the ceremony and it is planned that it will be reinstalled at the same point once the new building has been constructed around it.
Executed at short notice, the whole project was developed and delivered in 5 days. The spike was constructed by G and D Enterprises in Huddersfield and installed with the dedicated assistance of Mark Hobbs.
